Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is Explorers?
Explorers is the next section after Scouts, and is for anyone aged 14 - 18. You can join us whether you've been through the Scout section or are trying out scouting for the first time!
  • Who can join?
Anyone aged 14 - 17 can join us! If you'd like to join our unit, all you have to do is send us an email.
  • When do you meet?
Generally we meet on Tuesdays 8pm - 9.30pm, altough we do occassionally have a slightly earlier start time / meeting day depending on the activity.
  • Where do you meet?
We are based in the Westbourne Scout Hut in Broomhill, Sheffield. Details of any different meeting locations will be shared via email and our Facebook group
  • What do you do?
We get up to all sorts of exciting things! Our programme is always very diverse and can consist of fire lighting, cooking, night hikes, competitions, record breaking, task master and much more! - all of which aim to encourage you to try something new, and develop skills for life.
  • How much does it cost?
Subs are due 3 times a year, in September, January and April. This subscription fee goes towards running great evenings, insurance cover, hall rent and to subsidise costs of bigger activities and events. The cost is £45 per term, and this can be paid by cash, cheque, standing order or through direct debit on Online Scout Manager (OSM).
  • Do you run DofE?
Yes we do! We are part of Hexnet, the Hallam District Explorers and Network group that helps members achieve their Chief Scout's Awards and Queen's Scout Award, and along the way they also earn their DofE awards too. Each school year we advertise taking on a new cohort. You can find out more here: www.hexnetscouts.co.uk
  • Do you supply the uniform and necker?
To be invested we require you to purchase an Explorer Scout uniform shirt. Once you have been invested, we will supply you with a necker, badges and green unit polo shirt.
  • When can I be invested into the group?
We allow members a 2 week trial to see if Explorers is for them, and then we will add you to our subs payments. Once you purchase an Explorer shirt and pay your first subs payment we will invest you into the group.
